Loads of movies get panned by audiences and make a ton of money. Thats what marketing is for. The Last Airbender was profitable, as was Godzilla 98. And getting a rotten audience score is pretty tough without review bombing. The nature of audience scores means they will always be higher than low critic scores.

On the subject of box office Suicide Squad had awful holds for a non-sequel blockbuster that released in August with no competition. It made 2.42x its opening weekend, by comparison Guardians of the Galaxy releasing in the same window two years prior made 3.54x its opening weekend. Even the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie that released that August made 2.89x its opening. Green Lantern made 2.21x in the more competitive month of June.

So while it had a huge gross its legs were poor indicating bad word of mouth. All indicators are that audience reception was not good. It just had good marketing.

Yeah, it's just another average super-hero film at the end of the day. The RT score is deceptive, it has like a 74 on Metacritic, which does a better job telling you what to expect from it.

74 is definitely not an average score - as movie reviews tend to be on the five point scale a score above 70 or so would mean that it is getting mostly 4s and above. Thats really good! Movie scores are not like game scores - 50 is actually average. Regardless this is a very good score and one of the better scores for a superhero movie.

If anything the Metacritic score is more of an endorsement than the Rotten Tomatoes one.

We should have always called them Metroidlikes and not Metroidvanias too. SotN was 3 years after Super Metroid really established the genre, and 11 years after the original Metroid created it to begin with.

This is absolutely right. I adore Castlevania and especially the Iga ones, however it is definitely an imposter here. The gap between Metroid 1 and Symphony of the Night is 1.5x the gap between Symphony of the Night and Cave Story, and most Castlevania games arent even Metroidvanias in any way.

Heres the thing: when you played it matters as they patches it a lot and the PC version that later console versions were based on fixed loads of stuff while also adding features. Launch RE6 was pretty terrible.

In terms of story though its bad. Tries to do a little of everything yet fails on all fronts. There are some moments where it gets the Fast&Furious thing almost right, along with some decent characters, though everything else is terrible.

Yeah one of the most interesting things about that decline in Japanese game sales is that Nintendo is seeing growth, Xbox is seeing growth (thanks GamePass) and the Xbox Series should outsell the Xbox Ones lifetime units this year, and outside of consoles I believe mobile and PC are also seeing growth. The decline is entirely down to the fall of Playstation in the region.

Sorry I would threadban BT if that was a feature. :/ Not really a believer in blocks unless absolutely necessary but maybe.

Anyway, the new shows are all great, what a shocker. Theres only one GB show that genuinely didnt land (sorry Kingdom Heartache). The reaction to the announcement was really odd I would say. This happens whenever new series are announced yet a few never learn. With that said Albummers not for me though I am glad that its well liked.

Has aged a lot better than larger in scope narratives from the same timeframe.

Zelda has always been a series where there is a bit of something for everybody. Story is a part of that, it is one of the draws but not the key draw. After this one we will do a game that does a lot of different things all quite badly, story too.

Also Majoras Mask is not the most complex Zelda story or the best, that would be Breath of the Wild for the former and Skyward Sword for the latter.

You should watch the Capaldi era, it takes a few episodes to get going but contains some of the best ever episodes and Capaldi himself has a fantastic arc.

The current era is bad. Great acting from Whittaker but the driest stories imaginable. Its Who by numbers, though there have been some good historical episodes. Its not apocalyptic but a change of showrunner is pretty necessary.

As a Canadian, I'd very easily say other Canadians have an incredibly tilted view of our country believing our shit doesn't stink because we're not as bad as Americans, and it's definitely an important mindset to shift out of.

This is absolutely right, this happens all over the world I was more rolling my eyes at one specific statement. However, I do think that poor US Labour laws are actually very relevant to this subject.

Heres the thing: the vast majority of Sherlock Holmes stories are in the public domain, the exception is six stories from the last book, The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes, to be exact The Adventure of the Three Gables, The Adventure of the Blanched Soldier, The Adventure of the Lions Mane and The Adventure of the Retired Colourman which expire on Jan 1 2022, and The Adventure of the Veiled Lodger and The Adventure of Shoscombe Old Place which expire on Jan 1 2023. You can use Holmes and any of the other stories. However, any elements from the copyrighted stories cannot be used and the Doyle estate argue that this extends as far as Holmes being emotional, saying that this started there. I also heard that elements from at least one of these stories (I think Lions Mane but am not sure) are in the game. So thats why you might change the main character names but not the titles of the books and so on. This would be US only, everywhere else they are all already in the public domain I think.

They really did not. You can tell based on how the sentiment of trump isn't exclusive to the US. Other countries are facing similar challenges (see Brexit as the most obvious)

Of course, while there are similarities between Brexit and Trump largely in terms of fact-free campaigning and the likes of Cambridge Analytica, they are pretty different in terms of motivation and result.

There was no actual single reason for people to support Brexit. At the end of the day the reason a popular Brexit deal was impossible was the fact that everybody who wanted Brexit had a different idea of what it meant. You cant look at it and say well, immigration because less than a third of Brexit voters listed immigration as a top issue. This is the only way it was able to succeed - Brexit was never defined, do it could get a large coalition of people who wanted different things. It was a range from protectionists to globalists to liberals to communists voting for it. The end result is a deal which almost everyone hates as nobodys issues were fully addressed leave or remain. And of course it is much longer term damage than nearly anything a President can do.

Now contrast that with Trump, who was very clear about what he wanted to do. Voting coalition-wise it was the same group that always voted Republican by-and-large, and his policy platform was just the extension of what Republicans have been drifting towards for decades, which is fascism. It is telling that everyone in the UK hates Trump, even hardcore Brexiteers view him unfavourably and for a time his approval ratings there were worse than Putins, so Id say his sentiment was very unpopular.

So no, they are not comparable. Of the two Brexit is a much bigger anomaly as it was a referendum (already very strange, only three national referendums in UK history) in which the winning side was effectively tricked into voting for something terrible with no actual definition as to what it was. Trump on the other hand was just far right party in two-party system goes mask off, not all that surprising. Also Brexit will probably have much worse impacts long-term.

With that said, Trump is not a global oddity. Erdogan, Orbn, and Bolsonaro are all effectively the same. In particular it was Erdogan that started this new model of tinpot dictator that Trump would crib from. So I guess I agree Brexit is just a bad example.

Gonna say 4.5/10 here - I think the story is told very well but it does something I really dont like and makes the whole setup largely irrelevant and achieves its key plot twist mainly by lying.

Still a good game though, the story just rubbed me the wrong way.
